The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) rewarded Puck Knipscheer, Menno van Zelm, Remco Erik Breuker, Appy Sluijs and Paola Escudero with the Heineken Young Scientists Awards.
These awards for excellent young scientists will be presented September 23rd
simultaneously with the renowned Heineken Awards. KNAW hired De Wolven to generate free publicity and media attention for the winners of the award.

Today Pantar Amsterdam presented her annual report during a work visit of Alderman work and income Andrée Van Es. In 2009 Pantar Amsterdam guided approximately 9.000 people towards a job within the regular labour market or as close as possible to such a job. “More important than figures is what the clients can reach individually in a year,” says Concern Director Maarten Adelmeijer. Pantar Amsterdam called in PR agency De Wolven to help them with organising the presentation of the annual report during an afternoon where employers and clients talked about the importance of work.

Tapete has presented the new summer collection for 2010 at the Kleine Fabriek in Amsterdam (a trade fair for children’s fashion). Pararius.nl is the largest website for rental properties in the Netherlands. They also analyse the market and publish their reports. In 2010 the rental prizes in Holland dropped -4,32%. This also happened in Amsterdam and The Hague. Nevertheless prizes went up in Rotterdam and Utrecht. Culture at the Campus of the Radboud University Nijmegen wants to make her communication as targeted as possible and therefore cooperated with De Wolven to complete this inspiration session. Pantar Amsterdam has launched a new line of furniture 'Goed Gemaakt' (= well made). Not only is this furniture made of recycled materials, but also the people who created it are special. The underlying thought is that because of this work, people will integrate in the society again. The pieces of furniture are named as the person who created it, for example a couch named Timo or Jessy. Of course De Wolven will see to it that everybody will know “Goed Gemaakt” furniture

These and 8 other papers of students in the final year of college-prep have won the second KNAW Onderwijsprijs. That is what KNAW (The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences) announced today. The biodiversity is decreasing in a terrifying rate. Research shows that increasing the knowledge of the public can help to preserve it and therefore the European Commission has developed a campaign. Today the pan-European campaign will be presented in Amsterdam. Ogilvy Belgium called in De Wolven for the total launch of this project. The agency organised a press lunch at De Waag and exciting activities on the Nieuwmarkt (to also involve the public). Elements of the campaign are for instance a Facebook application on which you can “biodiversify” yourself and advertisements on busses.

The 221.309 visitors of the Dutch Restaurant Week have casted their votes. In the Krasnapolsky Hotel, the Rotterdam based restaurant Antichic won the prize for best Dutch Restaurant. Besides the regional prizes, Beluga in Maastricht was rewarded as the best Michelin-star restaurant. De Wolven was responsible for the enormous amount of media attention. The next edition of the DiningCity Restaurant Week will take place in the last week of August 2010.

30 percent of the families argue about the inheritance when a family member dies. So it is extremely important to make sure this is arranged as it should be. Starting from the 1st of January this year there is a new inheritance law in place and everybody should know about it. This change in the law is a good moment to place the notaries under the attention of the media. De Wolven are targeting them in close cooperation with designer Ronald Koopmans, communication agency Vibes and de Koninklijke Notariele Beroepsorganisatie.

Sony Professional launched the Sony PROduction Awards: an exciting new competition for European moviemakers. The competition starts with a preliminary in the Netherlands for which Sony will cooperate with Filmstart.nl. Together they dare filmmakers to upload videos onto the site to have them judged by thousands of viewers. Besides the recognition, they will also receive the support and guidance of the Sony team to grow even further. De Wolven found the right partner for cooperation en was responsible for the attention in media and at filmacademies.

At 5.30pm an election debate between candidate council(wo)men takes place. The topic is the reuse of buildings. From 7pm there are drinks for everyone at the top floor.

Today KNAW-president Robbert Dijkgraaf handed over the first KNAW Merian Prize to Naomi Ellemers. The professor Social Psychology of the Organisation received the award for her excellent scientific research. The jury was also impressed by her active efforts for equal opportunities for women in science. De Wolven supported the KNAW with generating free publicity for this new prize. VSince 1 October 2009 a part of Almere city centre has got a new name: Citymall 036. The new name is the start of a campaign by owner Unibail-Rodamco and the shopkeepers to bring the special qualities of this shopping area to the attention of the public. Citymall 036 contains 120 shops and catering establishments and is one of the larger shopping areas in the Netherlands. During the Christmas season Unibail-Rodamco will organize spectacular activities. De Wolven will help the real estate investor, the owner and developer to generate publicity around these events.

De Wolven are getting smarter and smarter. Therefore we hare happy to help the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences with the pr for a new award. “How can we stimulate the senses of our grandparents who live in a home for the elderly?”, multimedia artist Vera Broos wondered. In association with care organisations from Amsterdam she therefore started Zona's Kiosk. In October this art platform will travel to five care centres. At each location ten artists will perform with only one goal: to get into contact with the elderly via the senses. For this project De Wolven will develop web texts and press releases, so Zona’s Kiosk can inform the elderly, relatives and social workers.

In 2007 the Dutch designer/architect Sander Bokkinga showed his first KICKOFF collection at the renowned Salone del Mobile in Milan. New work he’s been exhibiting all around the world ever since. Originally from the small village Stokkum, Sander moved to Delft to study architecture. A few years later he left picturesque Delft for metropolis Rotterdam, where he started his own label bok. Using garden hoses, wood, straw and bricks he creates innovative nesting-boxes, chairs, lamps and more. Now Bokkinga is ready for a media offensive and De Wolven is the perfect partner for this.

ViaViela is specialised in baby sitter subsidies and gives advice to grandparents who take care of their grandchildren. The largest agency for host parents in The Netherlands has branches in all regions. At these branches ViaViela organises various activities to optimally inform host parents. Such as meetings on how to prevent burns afflicted to children. De Wolven uses these meetings to target the regional media about ViaViela’s services and that is paying off. Until now it has already led to many cuttings.

The first festive award ceremony for the KNAW Education Award will take place on 15 June in the presence of Minister Plasterk. This award was launched last year on the occasion of 200 years KNAW. 460 papers were submitted by 180 pre-university secundary schools. 12 papers were chosen as the winners. De Wolven is conspiring with Stichting M., the administrator of a telephone line where people can report crimes anonymously (M.). This line makes the step to report criminal activities smaller which makes it easier to fight crime. De Wolven will give workshops that focus on groups who aren’t familiar with M. and who are probably not aware where to report crimes anonymously. By informing these targets groups, M. aims to bring down criminality in problem areas in The Netherlands.

To practise what we preach, we have supported UpToYouToo since the beginning of De Wolven. UpToYouToo is an organisation that helps Kenyan youth with their commercial enterprises (e.g. waste collecting companies, theater groups, musicians, clothing designers).

An important initiative is the music studio in Nairobi, Penya Studios where hip hop and R&B-albums are recorded. The third CD is already a fact. In the November issue the Dutch trade magazine Communicatie reports about the advantages of outsourcing communication activities in the current economic circumstances. Working with an external party is an appealing option: it offers flexibility and saves costs. Besides that, it is better to choose a smaller agency to work with because they are more efficient and low-priced than a large agency. So that’s good news for De Wolven!☺

In Australia they started Movember: in November men are summoned to grow a moustache to help raise funds. Also the Dutch boys threw their raisors away to grow their mo’s. Over 40 women have worked for a Dutch project against breastcancer. They have crocheted more than 120 rugs out of used T-shirts. 80 can be seen at gallery ‘Atelier Open’ on the Keizersgracht 429 in Amsterdam (27 October - 1 November). An auctioneering firm ‘De Eland’ will auction the remaining rugs free of charge (11 November). The proceeds of the rugs will go to the cancer fund. De Wolven advised the initiators on how to approach the media with this project.

Anna Huizinga is a photographer who mainly portrays vulnerable groups. At the moment she is busy making a photoreport about elderly prostitutes. Besides general PR support, De Wolven is helping Anna in her search for these prostitutes. On the 16th of October Anna made a call for her project in a TV program on the regional channel of Amsterdam. Anna also makes portraits of single, older farmers. These pictures were published in a national agrarian specialist journal Nieuwe OOGST. Due to this publication Anna will soon have an exhibition in the agricultural museum in Eernewoude.

De Wolven look back with pride at the Biggest Group Discussion Ever!, a unique event which they invented as the start of the new weekly TV quiz Zeker Weten!. Over 320 enthusiastic children between the ages of 10 and 12 participated in a gigantic group discussion. The host of the show was Dolores, presenter of a Dutch children’s program. Singer Karima and rappers Darryl en Reejon took care of the music. Sara Laghmouchi, student of the winning school OBS De Zonnebloem: “It was really wonderful! I went totally nuts.” The program Zeker Weten will start on 2 November on Ned. 3 at 18.10 pm.

De Wolven is going to take on all communication activities for the television station 'Comedy Central'. This channel is part of MTV Networks and broadcasts the funniest comedies every day. It is not the first time that MTV Networks and De Wolven are working together. Previously De Wolven wrote articles for MTV’s magazine Fuse. Also De Wolven coordinated all of the free publicity around the Kids’ Choice Awards in May 2007 organised by Nickelodeon.

The 'Schorer Monitor' is an annual research for men who have sex with other men. The topics are health, well-being and sexuality. On the 12th of November the results will be presented and De Wolven is going to help Schorer attract attention for the research via the media. Rein Langeveld from The Hague is the glorious winner of the sleeping bag race, that was held yesterday in The Hague. In 13.46 seconds he raced over the 50 metre long track, that was placed in front of the Carl Denig shop in The Hague. The outdoor sport store reopened as an outlet shop and organised the race to celebrate this. De Wolven was responsible for developing the concept and approaching the press.

Colombo and De Wolven are the winners of a pitch for the communication around a job market in Amsterdam Nieuw West.
Project manager Caroline van Osselen from Nieuwe Kansen Nieuw West: “ The target group that we have to approach for the job market, which are ethnic women and adolescents, is difficult to reach through traditional methods. Therefore we have started a collaboration with two creative agencies, who can help us do so.” Within this collaboration the agencies will replenish each other: Colombo will develop the campaign and De Wolven will take care of the free publicity around the job market.

Starting from 19 march, the website www.zelfspot.org will be in the air, an initiative of Mr Harder and Creactiv. The site is a meeting point for homemade commercials. There will be ads in which second-hand articles or inventions will be recommended, films in which people with a certain skill (for example as a potential new employee) appoint themselves, and also parodies of existing commercials. De Wolven will be looking after the pr around the launch.

The oldest outdoor company of the Netherlands opened its first store in 1912. For years Carl Denig, with three stores in Amsterdam, Den Haag and Nieuwegein, has been recognized for its great range of outdoor clothing and equipment. Recently the company was taken over by Gert Jan Nauta and Peter Arensman. De Wolven is helping them with the communication around the taking-over. In her photos Anna wants to show the power and vulnerability of people. Her pictures of Tsjernobyl- victims have been published and exposited, as is the photo reportage she made in Georgia. In 2004 Anna received the third prize with her portraits of asylum seekers in a photo competition organised by the Goethe-institute in Rotterdam. The Wolves will help Anna in order to increase her brand awareness and the realization of her projects.

Amsterdam Creative Crossings

As a member of the entrepreneurs association of the region Amsterdam, the ORAM, De Wolven is involved in the Amsterdam Creative Crossings initiative. This is a fast growing network of ORAM-members in the creative sector. A goal of the network is to initiate connections between companies active in the creative industry and companies active in other sectors in the Amsterdam-region. Although during this time of the year flowers can hardly be found, the first cross-fertilizations have occurred.

Virtuoso in data management

De Wolven will support Virtu, the best protected hosting provider of the Netherlands, with its press communication regarding the opening of two new establishments. Communication for ABN

The past year De Wolven successfully set up and integrated a communication department within ABN AMRO Asset Managent Global Ops&IT. With its own newsletter, online video messages of the COO, the intranetsite and global Town Hall meetings the department is imbedded within the organisation. The main target of the assigment was to fully integrate communication in the day to day activities of staff worldwide.

Doing your bit

Wondering if you can combine partying and doing your bit? For sure it's possible. On the 9th of September the Kenyan rapper Goreala will give a unique concert in Bitterzoet (Amsterdam) together with Projekt and the French DJ/producer BoulaOne. The concert marks the launch of the CD Street Metaphors. The songs talk of survival, crime, paid love and politics of the street. They highlight the hardship of living life under the poverty line; they push for positive thinking about Africa’s youth and they advocate change. The CD is recorded in the Kenyan studio Rags2Records, initiated by the foundation Up To You Too from Amsterdam. All proceeds will go to the rappers and the studio. De Wolven supports Up To You Too with PR activities.
