Interface launches monthly podcast: design with an eye for the climate

Inspiration and insight for realizing the climate deal
Sustainable flooring company Interface is getting its own podcast series. ‘Design with an eye for the climate’, presented by sustainability manager Northern Europe Janneke Leenaars, provides inspiration and insight into how architects and designers, the real estate sector, governments and end users can contribute to realizing the Paris Agreement. In the spotlight is the blind spot ‘Embodied Carbon’, the CO2 journey of products and materials. Which C02-neutral or even C02-negative products and (building) materials exist? And how can these products contribute to making the built environment part of the solution?
‘For more than 25 years, we at Interface have been demonstrating that you can significantly reduce the C02 footprint of products and are on the path to C02-negative products. With our Climate Take Back™ mission, we want to reverse global warming. In doing so, we know better than anyone how important it is to work together and inspire each other,’ says Leenaars.
She continues: ‘The built environment now has a high C02 footprint and should and can become part of the solution. In this podcast series I talk to all kinds of inspiring guests who take us along in promising trends and solutions that really make my heart beat faster. Because a lot of great things are already happening. It’s now up to all of us to make a real change by making these solutions the norm and applying them. Hopefully this podcast series will contribute to the necessary transition.’
A positive approach to the climate problem
In the first episode, Leenaars speaks with Sven Jense, founder and director of Climate Cleanup. It is Jense’s mission and passion to show with concrete pioneer projects how doubling nature (‘Double Nature’) can turn around the climate crisis. In the episode, they discuss the importance of green space in cities and what solutions for the built environment can make a difference, as well as insights from climate psychologist Per Espener and what we can do to make solutions ‘mainstream’.
The first episode of the podcast can be listened to here, and through all major podcast apps. There will be monthly episodes featuring high-profile sustainability experts through 2021. Read more about the podcast series at blog.interface.com.
