Free publicity: pregnancy discrimination hotline

The question
Women with flexible employment contracts run a high risk of being discriminated against because of their pregnancy or early motherhood, according to an analysis by the Dutch Human Rights Authority: Meldpunt Zwangerschapsdiscriminatie. The College and De Wolven have been working together for years to put this issue on the map, as they are doing now. It is up to us to use the media to make a broad public aware of the consequences of pregnancy discrimination, including women and employers, but also politicians.
Our actions
- Develop media strategy focused on personal stories
- Press approach based on personal contact
The Result
Despite the fact that there is already a lot of attention for the subject, the result of the hotline is reason for the media to again take up pregnancy discrimination broadly. College President Adriana van Dooijeweert was a guest at Tros Radar to talk extensively about the topic. Furthermore, there was ample attention for pregnancy discrimination in among others Het Financieele Dagblad, Trouw, Telegraaf, Nu.nl, but also in various regional media, on the trade union site FNV.nl and on various maternity websites.
