Roosendaal politicians support construction of solar park by initiators GreenIPP and Obton

Evertkreekweg solar park one of largest in North Brabant

The Roosendaal City Council has given the green light for the realization of the solar park on the Evertkreekweg in Roosendaal. On Thursday, September 19, the council issued a ‘final statement of no objections’ for the project. The initiators are GreenIPP and the Danish company Obton, developer of sustainable energy projects and investor in solar energy. Thanks to this statement, the environmental permit can be granted and SDE+ subsidy applied for. This clears the way for the construction of the solar park, which is expected to start in 2020.

Important contribution to climate
The solar park of 30 hectares will be built between the Holderbergsedijk, the Evertkreekweg and the Nieuwe Roosendaalsche Vliet. Almost 115,000 solar panels will be installed here, which together will generate enough energy to supply 10,000 households with power, assuming an average annual consumption of 3,000 kWh per household. This makes the solar meadow in Roosendaal one of the largest in North Brabant. The arrival of the solar project will prevent 19,500 tons of CO2 emissions per year. In this way, it contributes to the objectives laid down in the Paris Climate Agreement.

Anders Marcus, CEO Obton: “We are pleased to be able to work with an innovative country like the Netherlands. The Netherlands has ambitious climate targets and we think it is important to be able to contribute to them.”

Attention for the environment
GreenIPP and Obton have made agreements with all local residents. For example, local residents were involved in the choice of landscape design. The developers are also working with the IVN Foundation, a national organization that involves people locally in nature, to monitor the soil quality and biodiversity of the park. As soon as the SDE+ subsidy has been obtained, a crowdfunding campaign will be started for interested parties who want to participate financially. In compensation for the construction of the park, the adjacent rowing club will receive funds to implement a number of improvements, including a CO2-reducing water pump. Anders Marcus, CEO Obton: “A solar park is logically a very good solution for creating solar energy for local residents. We are excited to be able to provide green energy to the residents of Roosendaal and Steenbergen in this way.”

About Zonnepark Evertkreekweg
The solar park consists of 33.5 hectares, of which 30 hectares are located in Roosendaal and 3.5 hectares in Steenbergen. Of the 33.5 hectares, less than 25 hectares will be used for the park itself and the remaining 8.5 hectares will be given a high-quality landscape interpretation that will increase biodiversity. The solar park will be built in an area outside the dikes that will also serve to collect excess rainwater. To the satisfaction of the municipality and the water board, the construction of the solar park will considerably increase the available water storage capacity. This will enable water to be properly collected in the event of excessive rainfall and will relieve the downstream Beek en Dal areas of Roosendaal.

The solar project was initiated by DIEPP Solar and others. Patrick Verstege, initiator and developer DIEPP: “GreenIPP and Obton have from the outset sought dialogue and coordination with local residents and other stakeholders. This special solar park, with more than 25 percent of bio-diverse green spaces, extensive recreational walking opportunities and a combination of energy generation and rainwater management, is a result that everyone should be proud of.”

Obton has built many solar parks in Europe and is now investing in building solar parks in the Netherlands. The reason for choosing to cooperate with this party is that Obton attaches great importance to green and sustainable projects and is a reliable partner.
