ART AND CULTURE FESTIVAL RUIMTEKOERS GOES OUTDOORS

3 – 7 July in Arnhem: art, culture, theater, music and good food
From 3 to 7 July the fourth edition of art and culture festival Ruimtekoers will take place. This time not in empty offices or stores, but in the outer space of the city. For five days, two locations at the foot of the John Frost Bridge in Arnhem-Zuid will be transformed into a festival ground. Taste the favorite dishes of city residents, get inspired by the mobile vegetable garden, dance along to Moroccan hip hop and reggaeton from Egypt and Israel and listen to Arnhem’s pride John Frost. Think about new ideas, dreams and directions for the city of the future, to make life in the public space better, more beautiful and more fun for everyone.
About Ruimtekoers festival
Ruimtekoers is an urban and cultural experiment wrapped in an accessible, annual festival in Arnhem. It is the first time the event takes place outdoors. The organization wants to make the potential of the outdoor space in the city tangible by organizing workshops, lectures, music, theater and art in the middle of society – where people do their shopping, live and go to school. In this way, special meeting places are created where people can work together to develop new ideas about the city’s outdoor space.
The program
Food, dance and music
Chef and social entrepreneur Allon Cheng will put the city residents’ favorite dishes on the table for five days. Taste the creations and take a seat at the long beer tables. There is no shortage of music and theater at the festival. Arnhems pride John Frost and music theatre group Project Wildeman will perform, spoken word collective Mensen Zeggen Dingen will provide visitors with word art, and thanks to pop stage Willemeen, there will be dancing at Yallah! Yallah! on Moroccan hip-hop, reggaeton from Egypt and Israel, Lebanese speed-dabke and more from the Middle East. De Onkruidenier and cultural center Rozet will tell you more about the mobile pick and vegetable garden: an edible garden that can be moved. After the festival, the mobile garden will be given a permanent location in Arnhem-Zuid.
Art, culture and talks
During Ruimtekoers, Museum Arnhem presents ‘Woordenfeest’ – a special project by product designer Erik Stehmann and graphic designer Dana Dijkgraaf. They are looking for words with which the residents of Arnhem-Zuid feel connected. They will incorporate these into a life-size installation. Artist Yasser Ballemans incorporates the rituals of local residents into an installation. Finally, architecture center CASA presents a series of lectures, talks and workshops and writer and programmer Bas Heijne shares his vision of how the collective sense of unease in society can be tempered.
